Jennifer Benner of Fine Gardening magazine journeyed from Connecticut to Cambria, California, to both photograph and write about how I tend my gardens. The magazine will focus on some of my Trowel & Error remedies and will be releasing the story in the July-August 2005 issue of Fine Gardening.
Chamberlain Bros., a division of the Penguin Group (USA) invited me to submit a chapter about my Grandmother Lovejoy for My Mother's GardenA Collection About Love, Family, and Flowers with an introduction by Penelope Hobhouse and selections by Domonique Browning, Jamacia Kincade, and other "writing gardeners and gardening writers."
I am very excited about my new
children's book The
Little Green Island with the Little Red House: A Book of Colors
and Critters (Down East Books), which was released
in May. (To order a copy, click here.)
The book was inspired by our life on a little green island (yes,
in a little red house) and is filled with animals and nuances
of color (chartreuse, azure, beige, you get the picture!) not
often found in children's books. I created Little Green Island
in an old-fashioned form called a rebus, which simply means that
in some instances a picture replaces a word. The book is written
in rhyme and will be a joyful read aloud for children from 3 to
8.
